Paper and Poster Submission

Draft Paper Submissions - Due May 27, 2020

The Geothermal Resources Council (GRC) invites you to present your latest technical work in geothermal research, exploration, policy, development and utilization at GRC’s 44th Annual Meeting & Expo.

We encourage geothermal researchers and experts from the USA and around the world to submit their work for consideration to be presented at the GRC 2020 Annual Meeting & Expo.

New for 2020!

At this year’s conference, authors can choose to write a paper and give an oral presentation OR submit an abstract and present a poster.

  • Both papers and posters have a short abstract that must be copied into our submission system before the abstract deadline provided below.
  • Both papers and posters will need to follow GRC templates for a consistent professional look and will be reviewed prior to acceptance.
  • For authors that would like to submit both a paper and a poster for their presentation then we provide this as an option (see instructions below).

Paper Format:

  1. For initial submission, prepare a completed draft paper with all illustrations (including tables, figures, charts, photos, and maps) embedded within the text.
  2. You must use the GRC Paper Template to format your paper(s) and the file must be in word format. The Paper Style Key explains the styles, fonts and format we use for the GRC Paper Template. Submissions that do not adhere to the GRC Paper Template will be automatically rejected.
  3. Papers must be at least 1,000 words in length and not exceed 7,000 words, including references, charts, maps, graphs, figures, diagrams, tables, and other illustrations.
  4. Please include a minimum of 5-10 keywords below the title and author(s) on the first page of your paper(s).

References to published literature must be fully cited at the end of the paper. Unreliable sources such as Wikipedia must never be cited.GRC Reviewers will enforce the above standards and return comments by June 30.  You will have until July 10 to submit your final paper.

All papers will be assigned an oral presentation slot at the convention.

Poster Format:

For initial submission, you do not need to submit a draft poster. Just submit an abstract to start. You will have an extra 2 months to prepare your draft poster after submitting the abstract.

You must use the GRC poster template to format your poster and the file must be in PowerPoint format.

Paper and Poster Option:

As in the past you are welcome to submit both a paper and a poster on the same topic. You can choose to present your submission orally and in the poster session, or only in the poster session. 

Submittal Instructions:

  1. Download the paper or poster template. Do not try to recreate the templates.
    • Download the Paper Template here. Continue with the submission of your paper using the following instructions.
    • Poster Template will be available shortly. Continue with submission of your abstract in the following instructions.
  2. Download the License to Use and Reproduce form here. This must be signed by all authors and included with your paper and/or poster submission.
  3. Create a login and profile on the CMT website (if you submitted a paper last year, please use the same login or click "Reset Password"). Once logged in, go to the “All Conferences” tab to select the 2020 GRC Annual Meeting & Expo from the conference list.
  4. From the “My Conferences” tab, select the 2020 GRC Annual Meeting & Expo then click the "Create new submission" button.
  5. Enter title, abstract, author names and emails, and select your topic.
    • Paper Submission: upload your completed draft paper and signed License to Use and Reproduce form(s), and answer the questions on the CMT website.
    • Poster Submission: check back later to submit your poster in Microsoft PowerPoint format.
  6. Please make sure to click on the "Submit" Button to save and submit entry.
  7. The next screen is titled “Edit Conflicts of Interest.” Use this screen to indicate whether you have any collaborators or colleagues who would have a conflict of interest if they are assigned to review your submission.
  8. You should receive an email notification regarding your submissions. You will also see it on the CMT main author console page.
